Brief Description

The Journalist's Medical Welfare Scheme was first implemented in 2012 by the Government of Assam. Under this scheme, one-time financial assistance is provided to the accredited and recognized journalists of Assam for their medical treatment.

1. The applicant should be a citizen of India. 1. The applicant should be an ordinary resident of Assam. 1. The applicant must be a journalist who is formally accredited / recognised by the DIPR and fulfil all the norms required for the said accreditation/ recognition. General Note: Grant of financial assistance to any working journalist is not a matter of right. Assistance would be extended depending on the Committees satisfaction as to the eligibility/ merits of the cases and the availability of the financial resources for the purpose. The Committee reserves the right to reject or accept any application without assigning any reasons thereof.

What is the benefit of this scheme?

Under this Scheme, one-time financial assistance is to be provided to the Accredited and Recognized Journalist of Assam for treatment.

Who is recognized as an Accredited Journalist?

Accredited Journalist as identified by the Director of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) Assam under the Rule of the Assam Press Correspondents (Accredited/ Recognitions) Rules, 1989.

How is the financial assistance extended?

The financial assistance is extended out of the interest accrued from the Corpus fund.

How does the Committee decide upon the fund to be made available for an applicant?

The Committee may decide upon the fund to be made available per applicant depending upon the nature and severity of the ailments/ disease.

Who can apply for this scheme?

A journalist of Assam who is formally accredited/recognized by the DIPR and fulfill all the norms required for the said accreditation/ recognition.

How will payment be made to the beneficiaries under this scheme?

Payment to the beneficiaries will be made out of the interest income earned against the corpus fund. Interest income will be credited to Savings /A/C to be maintained for the purpose.

Is this scheme only for a journalist of Assam?

Yes, a journalist, who is formally accredited/recognized by the DIPR and fulfills all the norms required for the said accreditation/recognition, and dependent family members of the journalist, is eligible for the scheme.

How will payment be decided to the beneficiary under this scheme?

The payments will be decided by the Committee and shall be made in the form of Cheques to be issued by the DIPR as the fund for the purpose shall be maintained in the Savings Account.

How can I apply under this scheme?

Application for grant of financial assistance shall be submitted to the Convener of the Committee (Director, DIPR) in the prescribed form.

How is the decision taken in cases of urgency/emergency?

In cases of urgency/emergency, decisions may be taken with the approval of the Chairperson and reported to the next meeting of the Committee for its approval.

How shall the financial assistance be provided?

Financial assistance shall be provided on the date of issue of the order sanctioning the assistance unless otherwise specified therein.
